The Bernhardts are a family enterprise rooted in real estate — owning, operating, and improving property across the Mid-Atlantic and the Colorado Rockies. But the buildings were never the point. We run the business with patience measured in decades so it can fund what matters for generations: a family launched well, neighbors housed with dignity, and a foundation that puts widows and orphans first. To whom much is given, much is required — and much has been given.

Built on footers we didn't pour.

Any builder will tell you: a house is only as honest as its foundation — the footers set deep below the frost line, the walls that carry every load above them. Ours were poured long before us.

Alan Thevenet

29th Infantry Division · Normandy to St. Lô

Landed on D-Day at Omaha Beach — Dog Red sector — and fought with the 29th through the hedgerows to St. Lô and every campaign the division carried after. He survived what many didn't, and came home to build a family.

Chas Bernhardt

Builder · The Colorado Rockies · Since the 1970s

Chas arrived in the Rocky Mountains with little more than will, and carved a place into them — literally, starting on the I-70 project cut through the high country. A builder by trade since the 1970s, he spent a career framing the Colorado Rockies into a life other families could live: homes for generations under one roof, in the mountains he made his own.

Charmayne Bernhardt

The Open Table · The Vail Valley

While Chas framed the valley's houses, Charmayne made them feel like homes. Hers is the ministry of the open table — coffee and fresh bread for friends and strangers across the Vail Valley, locals and newcomers alike, cared for before they thought to ask. At the Shaw Cancer Center, she's the one who writes the thank-you note to every donor — faithfulness small enough to go unnoticed, steady enough that her coworkers gave her a name built from hers: Char-Mom.

He built the walls. She warmed everything inside them.
The Shoulders We Stand On

Everything this family holds, builds, and gives — including The PACER Foundation's work restoring homes for Wilmington's widows and orphans — stands on those footers and those walls.

God blessed our forefathers, and He continues to bless us. The only fitting response is to build something worthy of the foundation — and pour footers of our own for the generation coming after. That's the work the rest of this page exists to fund.
